Argentina and Peru Announce New Year Schedules for Transport, Banks and Stores

Authorities and operators published reduced holiday timetables and retail closing times, with notices to verify last departures and any late changes.

  • Argentina’s national government granted administrative leave for Dec. 31 and Jan. 1 under Decree 883/2025, and the central bank ordered leave for financial staff, suspending in‑person banking while digital channels and ATMs remain available.
  • In the Buenos Aires metro area, buses run reduced service with progressive evening withdrawals on Dec. 31 and holiday schedules on Jan. 1, the Subte closes around 9:30 p.m. and the Premetro around 9 p.m., and Trenes Argentinos published first and last train times by line.
  • Detailed train adjustments include last Dec. 31 departures in the afternoon-evening and Jan. 1 restarts on Sunday/holiday timetables across San Martín, Mitre, Sarmiento, Roca and Belgrano Sur lines.
  • In Lima and Callao, the ATU set special hours: regular buses operate roughly 4:30 a.m.–midnight, corridor services 5 a.m.–11 p.m., the Metropolitano runs A, B and C from 5 a.m.–10 p.m. on Jan. 1 with select express services starting at noon on Dec. 31, and Metro Line 1 runs 5:30 a.m.–10 p.m. while Line 2 operates 6 a.m.–11 p.m.
  • Retail hours are shortened: Rosario shops and supermarkets close at 5 p.m. on Dec. 31 under a local agreement, and major Peruvian chains open with reduced Dec. 31 schedules and mostly close on Jan. 1, with limited exceptions.
