Argentina and Mexico Post Nov. 6 Weather Alerts for Severe Storms, Coastal Winds and Extreme Cold

Official bulletins underscore contrasting hazards—hail-prone storms in central-west Argentina versus tropical-wave rains, Tehuantepec gusts and highland freezes in Mexico.

Overview

  • Argentina’s national weather service issued yellow and orange alerts across 11 provinces, elevating Córdoba, San Luis and Mendoza for storms capable of heavy short‑period rainfall, hail and wind gusts above 90 km/h.
  • Río Cuarto (Córdoba) is under an orange alert from 21:00 on Nov. 6 to 02:59 on Nov. 7, with 60–80 mm of rain possible along with frequent lightning, hail and damaging gusts.
  • Yellow storm alerts also cover the far west of Buenos Aires, La Pampa, Río Negro, Neuquén, northeast Chubut, and parts of Córdoba, San Juan and Catamarca, with expected totals of 20–50 mm in places.
  • Yellow advisories for Zonda winds are in effect in Mendoza and San Juan, warning of 30–45 km/h winds with gusts up to 75 km/h that can cut visibility and drop humidity.
  • Mexico’s SMN/Conagua forecast Tropical Wave No. 40 interacting with a low‑pressure channel to drive strong rains in the southeast and Yucatán, northerly gusts of 60–70 km/h in the Isthmus/Gulf of Tehuantepec, and predawn lows of −10 to −5 °C in Chihuahua and Durango with possible frosts.
