Argentina Allows Weekend Holidays To Shift, but Oct. 12 Decision Remains Unclear

The new decree puts the Cabinet Office in charge of case-by-case moves to create long weekends and boost tourism.

Overview

  • Decree 614/2025, published in the Boletín Oficial with signatures from President Javier Milei and Chief of Cabinet Guillermo Francos, authorizes moving trasladable holidays that fall on Saturday or Sunday to the prior Friday or the following Monday.
  • The Jefatura de Gabinete is designated as the authority of application and will issue complementary rules and determine each relocation.
  • The 12 October holiday (Día del Respeto a la Diversidad Cultural) is the only remaining 2025 trasladable that falls on a weekend and is set to be adjusted to create a long weekend.
  • Coverage diverges on the new date: Tourism Secretary Daniel Scioli said it would shift to Monday 13, while another report cites an official Cabinet resolution moving it to Friday 10.
  • The decree does not alter inamovible holidays; upcoming dates still include the tourism non-working day on Friday 21 November, the Soberanía Nacional holiday on Monday 24 November, and the fixed holidays on 8 and 25 December.
