Argentina Adds Local September Holidays as Mexico Confirms Sept. 16 Rest Day With Triple Pay

The latest notices distinguish Argentina’s locally set and school-only breaks from Mexico’s fixed Independence Day protections for workers and bank operations.

Overview

  • Argentina confirmed a nationwide school asueto for Thursday, Sept. 11, for Día del Maestro, which cancels classes but is not a national public holiday for other sectors.
  • Buenos Aires Province formalized local feriados: Sept. 5 in Colonia Seré; Sept. 8 in San Pedro, Carhué, La Niña, José Benito Casas and Colonia El Toro; and Sept. 12 in Baigorrita under Resolution 157/2025, affecting public administration and local Banco Provincia branches.
  • A new Argentine decree allows trasladable holidays that fall on weekends to move to a Friday or Monday, with Oct. 12 shifted to Friday, Oct. 10 to create a tourism long weekend.
  • In Mexico, Tuesday, Sept. 16 remains a mandatory national rest day that is not moved, and employees who work that day must receive triple pay; banks will close under the CNBV calendar.
  • Mexico’s SEP calendar lists no classes on Sept. 16 and additional school suspensions on Sept. 8 and Sept. 26, and media clarified that Argentine local feriados, such as the Sept. 5 observance in Colonia Seré, do not apply in Mexico.
