Arequipa Courts Confirm 7-Year Term for Police Officer in 2022 Child Sex Case, Order Life Sentence in Separate Majes Abuse

Judges said coherent, corroborated victim testimony proved the crimes.

  • The Tercera Sala Penal de Apelaciones of the Arequipa Superior Court upheld a seven-year prison sentence for police officer Félix Junior Pazo Herrera for indecent touching of a 14-year-old.
  • The appellate panel of Carlo Magno Cornejo Palomino, Carlos Mendoza Banda and Manfred Vera Torres also ordered S/2,000 in civil damages to the victim.
  • Prosecutors established that the 2022 incident occurred at a children’s party in El Cural, Cerro Colorado, where Pazo Herrera, reportedly intoxicated, intercepted the minor as she headed to the restroom.
  • Authorities said Pazo Herrera will be transferred to a penitentiary to serve the full term once the required administrative procedures are completed.
  • In a separate ruling in Majes, Ubaldo Consa A. received life imprisonment, S/30,000 in reparations and permanent disqualification from working with minors for repeated sexual abuse between 2009 and 2011, proven through the victim’s statement, psychological evaluation and corroborating testimony.
