Arctic Blast Causes Record-Breaking Cold and Heavy Snowfall Across U.S. and UK

Thousands of Flights Cancelled, Health Warnings Issued as Extreme Weather Continues

An Arctic blast is causing record-breaking cold temperatures and heavy snowfall across the United States, with the Midwest and Northeast being the most affected. Areas south of Buffalo, New York, have received up to 4 feet of lake-effect snow.
The cold weather is causing significant disruptions, including thousands of flight cancellations and delays. Airlines have cancelled more than 2,100 flights into and out of the U.S. on Monday alone.
Extreme weather conditions are expected to continue throughout the week. The Plains states could see temperatures as low as minus 30 degrees Celsius with wind chill factors, and Montana and the Dakotas could see minus 50 degrees Celsius.
The severe weather is also affecting the UK, with an Arctic blast expected to bring freezing conditions across the country. The Met Office has issued yellow weather warnings for snow and ice.
The cold weather could have serious health impacts, particularly for those over the age of 65 and those with pre-existing health conditions. The UK Health Security Agency has issued a cold-health alert.
