Arambai Tenggol Leader Arrested in Killing of Differently-Abled Man in Manipur

  • Police identified Longjam Khaba Singh, 35, as a commander of the Arambai Tenggol outfit and detained him from Mongsangei Makha Leikai on the outskirts of Imphal West.
  • Investigators have now arrested ten suspects, including seven members of Arambai Tenggol, and exhumed the victim’s body at Samurou Naorem with forensic teams on June 17.
  • Community groups including the Manipur Meitei Pangal Welfare Organisation and the United Meitei-Pangal Committee are demanding an NIA investigation and a ban on Arambai Tenggol.
  • Md Chesam Abdul Kadir, a 29-year-old man with a 65% physical disability from the Meitei Pangal community, went missing on June 11 after being accused of theft and was later found buried near the Imphal riverbank.
  • The arrest follows ongoing ethnic clashes between Meiteis and Kuki-Zos in Manipur since May 2023, which have claimed over 250 lives and displaced thousands.
