Overview
- Matteo Aquilini filed a B.C. Supreme Court claim on Sept. 17 naming his grandfather Luigi and uncles Francesco and Roberto as defendants personally and as trustees of the Luigi and Elisa Aquilini Legacy Trust.
- The suit alleges Matteo and his siblings were excluded from the family business and trust after his father, Paolo, reported in January 2020 historic sexual-assault allegations involving members of two branches of the family.
- Matteo claims a 1995 trust meant to benefit descendants was restructured in 2015 when Elisa was gravely ill, allowing Luigi to name himself a trustee and beneficiary and later positioning Francesco and Roberto as beneficiaries.
- He seeks damages for alleged breach of trust, breach of fiduciary duty, conspiracy and unjust enrichment, and the claim values the trust assets at potentially more than $320 million.
- No statements of defence have been filed and the Aquilini Investment Group did not immediately comment, while a related human-rights complaint by Matteo’s brother Christian remains pending and Paolo is no longer listed as part of the Canucks ownership group.
