Overview
- AquaStar (USA) Corp recalled approximately 85,000-plus bags covering three items: Kroger Raw Colossal EZ Peel Shrimp, Kroger Mercado Cooked Medium Peeled Tail-Off Shrimp, and AquaStar Raw Peeled Tail-On Shrimp Skewers.
- The products were sold June 12–Sept. 17 at Kroger-owned banners in 31 states, including Ralphs, Fred Meyer, King Soopers, Smith’s, QFC and others.
- FDA officials say no illnesses have been reported and none of the products that tested positive were released into U.S. commerce, yet items are being pulled due to potential contamination from insanitary conditions.
- Testing reported about 68 becquerels per kilogram of cesium‑137 in detained material, well below the FDA’s 1,200 Bq/kg intervention level, as PT. Bahari Makmur Sejati in Indonesia remains on import alert and CBP heightens screening.
- Investigators are examining contaminated scrap metal or smelting activity near the Indonesian processor as a possible source; consumers should discard or return recalled shrimp for refunds and may call 1-800-331-3440 for assistance.
