Overview
- Aptera and Shanghai-based Launch Design announced the strategic investment and production program on Aug. 20, 2026, in a deal valued at up to about $44 million that aims to deliver fixtures and parts for the first 40 production vehicles with a target to begin building in Q4 2026.
- Under the agreement Aptera will fund roughly two-thirds of approved program costs in cash, while Launch Design will receive up to about $15 million in warrants to buy Aptera stock, and Aptera said it will file additional agreement terms in a forthcoming SEC Form 8‑K.
- Launch Design will provide design-for-manufacturing services, tooling and access to its pilot production facilities and international supplier network, with initial pilot builds and finished subassemblies expected to be produced overseas and shipped to Aptera’s final assembly site in California.
- Aptera says the partnership has already cut its projected bill of materials and will conserve cash as it scales production, but the deal also brings dilution risk from warrants, dependence on a single international partner, potential exposure to tariffs or export controls and continued need for outside financing.
- Launch Design is a long-established design-for-manufacturing firm with more than 3,000 employees and a 400-plus vehicle portfolio, and the deal gives Aptera a faster path to volume production while raising questions about supply‑chain control, cost competitiveness for buyers and the company’s ability to execute at scale.
