Applications Open for Replacement of Murdered Maryland Judge
Judge Andrew Wilkinson was killed after presiding over a contentious divorce case; suspect found dead in apparent suicide.
- Maryland's state judiciary is accepting applications to replace Judge Andrew Wilkinson, who was killed earlier this year.
- Wilkinson was shot to death in his driveway on Oct. 19, hours after granting a divorce to Pedro Argote's wife and awarding her full custody of their four children.
- Argote, the main suspect in Wilkinson's murder, was found dead a week later in a heavily wooded area outside Hagerstown from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
- Wilkinson, 52, was appointed to the bench nearly four years ago, after working as an assistant county attorney and later starting his own law office.
- Applications for Wilkinson's replacement will be accepted through Dec. 21, and Gov. Wes Moore will choose from a list of candidates submitted by a judicial nominating commission.
