Apple's New Feature Lets Users Share AirTag Locations with Airlines

The Share Item Location feature in iOS 18.2 aims to streamline the recovery of lost luggage by allowing real-time location sharing with airline partners.

Apple's Share Item Location feature enables users to generate a secure link to share the location of AirTags or Find My network accessories with third parties, including airlines.
The feature is part of the iOS 18.2 public beta and will be available to all iPhone Xs and later models with a free software update in December.
More than 15 airlines, including Delta and United, will integrate this feature into their customer service processes to help locate mishandled or delayed baggage.
The shared location link is end-to-end encrypted, automatically expires after seven days, and can be disabled by the owner at any time for privacy protection.
SITA, an air transport technology company, will incorporate the feature into its WorldTracer baggage-tracing system, used by over 500 airlines worldwide.
