Apple's lead iPhone and Apple Watch designer, Tang Tan, is leaving the company to join Jony Ive's design firm LoveFrom, where he will work on a new artificial intelligence hardware project alongside OpenAI's Sam Altman.
The project, which is still in the early stages of development, aims to create devices with the latest AI capabilities. Tan will lead the hardware engineering for this project.
More than 20 former Apple employees have joined LoveFrom, which has been assembling a team of high-profile talent for this project.
While the exact nature of the AI device is unknown, it is speculated that the project could result in a product dubbed the 'iPhone of AI'.
Despite the loss of key design talent, Apple is expected to continue its product development without significant disruption.
