Overview
- Multiple reports on Tuesday show Johny Srouji, now Apple’s Chief Hardware Officer, has executed a broad reshuffle of the company’s hardware organization to speed up work on future devices.
- Kate Bergeron will move from day-to-day product design to oversee product reliability and materials selection across all hardware, a role that keeps her focused on making products more durable and production-ready.
- Product design duties are being split between Shelly Goldberg, who will take the Mac design portfolio, and Dave Pakula, who will handle Watch, iPad and AirPods design, while Richard Dinh stays in charge of iPhone product design.
- Srouji created a new Ecosystems Platforms and Partnerships team led by Matt Costello and Kevin Lynch reporting to him, and he expanded technical portfolios for Sribalan Santhanam and Zongjian Chen to cover chip packaging, Israel chip teams, displays, sensors, battery and camera engineering and a noninvasive blood‑sugar project.
- The moves are explicitly timed to tighten the link between Apple’s silicon and device teams before John Ternus becomes CEO on September 1 and are meant to accelerate launches and closer integration of AI, health and new device work while testing the company’s ability to overcome supply and timing pressures.
