Apple’s Final Cut Camera 2.0 Brings ProRes RAW and Genlock to iPhone 17 Pro

Forthcoming Final Cut Pro tools plus Blackmagic’s ProDock extend these features into full multicam and RAW editing pipelines.

Overview

  • The free update, due later this month, enables ProRes RAW recording and genlock on iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max, making them the first smartphones to capture ProRes RAW.
  • Apple’s genlock API allows frame-accurate sync with other cameras, with Blackmagic Design’s new Camera ProDock already supporting the feature.
  • Open‑gate recording uses the full sensor for reframing and stabilization at resolutions beyond DCI 4K, complementing Apple Log 2 capture on iPhone 17 Pro models.
  • Expanded timecode options include Time of Day, Record Run, and external input, and the 200mm telephoto on iPhone 17 Pro records ProRes up to 4K at 60 fps.
  • Manual controls for the new square Center Stage front camera arrive across the iPhone 17 lineup, while the app requires iPhone XS on iOS 18.6 with some capabilities limited to iOS 26 or iPhone 17 Pro.
