• BAFTA-nominated actress Ruth Madeley, who was born with spina bifida, has been cast to play disability rights pioneer Judy Heumann.
• The feature draws on Heumann’s bestselling memoir to dramatize her leadership of a 28-day sit-in at the San Francisco Federal Building in 1977.
• Oscar-winning director Siân Heder is adapting the memoir with co-writer Rebekah Taussig under her overall deal with Apple.
• Producers David Permut, Kevin Walsh and Heumann’s longtime managers John W. Beach and Kevin Cleary are attached alongside Apple Original Films.
• The film will spotlight the 1977 protest that secured enforcement of section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act and paved the way for the Americans with Disabilities Act.
