Apple’s $39 Dynamic Power Adapter Debuts as iPhone 17 Gains 50% Charge in About 20 Minutes

The compact USB-C charger peaks at 60W in brief bursts due to thermal limits.

Overview

  • Apple is now selling the 40W Dynamic Power Adapter with 60W Max for $39 on the online Apple Store.
  • Apple says iPhone 17, 17 Pro, and 17 Pro Max reach 50% in around 20 minutes with a compatible USB-C power adapter, faster than iPhone 16’s roughly 30 minutes.
  • Apple lists iPhone Air at 50% in around 30 minutes when paired with a supported adapter.
  • The adapter’s compact design allows only short 60W peaks, while larger 60W-or-higher chargers can maintain higher output.
  • Apple notes the faster wired charging does not require its new adapter, most higher-wattage third-party chargers will work, and pre-orders open Friday at 5 a.m. PT before a September 19 launch.
