Overview
- Apple published a support document and released the first iOS, iPadOS, macOS and visionOS 27.3 developer beta on Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2026, confirming that items shared with “Anyone with the link” will be checked for harmful content.
- The checks apply only to the “Anyone with the link” public-sharing option and do not affect the “People you choose” setting, shared albums, or content simply uploaded into iCloud.
- Sharing with a public link removes end-to-end encryption for that item even if the account has Advance Data Protection enabled, which lets Apple access the content to run automated or manual reviews.
- If Apple flags content as harmful it may move, refuse, modify, remove, or delete the item and impose account-level actions such as blocking or disabling an Apple ID or referring the matter to law enforcement.
- The policy formalizes that public iCloud links were already accessible to Apple and could change how people share sensitive photos and files, while raising questions about false positives, automated detection accuracy, and legal review in different countries.
