Overview
- Digital IDs based on U.S. passports are accepted at TSA checkpoints in more than 250 U.S. airports for domestic identity verification.
- The Wallet passport and state IDs do not work for international travel, and many situations still require a physical ID.
- Adding a passport involves scanning the photo page, reading the embedded chip with an iPhone, and completing selfie and liveness checks, with data kept encrypted on the device.
- Driver’s license and state ID support is live in 13 states plus Puerto Rico, with Connecticut, Kentucky, Mississippi, Oklahoma, Utah, Arkansas, and Virginia signed on to adopt the feature.
- At checkpoints, users present their ID by double‑clicking the Side Button, holding the device near a reader, and authenticating with Face ID or Touch ID.
