Apple Veteran DJ Novotney Departs for Rivian
Novotney's move marks another senior executive departure at Apple, as he joins Rivian to lead vehicle programmes.
- DJ Novotney, a vice-president of hardware engineering at Apple, is leaving for Rivian Automotive, where he will become senior vice-president of vehicle programmes.
- Novotney, who worked at Apple for nearly 25 years, was instrumental in the development of several generations of the iPod and iPhone, and was tapped to help lead development of the iPad.
- Novotney also helped bring the Apple Watch to market and was one of a few executives tapped to kick start Apple’s efforts to develop an electric vehicle – a project code-named Titan.
- Novotney's departure marks another exit in the senior ranks at Apple, following a slew of other executives in hardware, operations and services across 2022 and 2023.
- Rivian, a maker of electric SUVs and pickup trucks, sees Novotney's hire as a major coup and he will be one of the company’s most critical executives.
