Overview

  • The camera module incorporates an iPhone sensor powered by an A-series chip and runs iOS with custom firmware to record in Apple’s ProRes lossless log format.
  • It matches the form factor and weight of standard F1 broadcast equipment to avoid altering car performance and exceeded Formula 1 durability specifications in testing.
  • Filmed during real 2023 and 2024 F1 races, the module is controlled via a custom iPad app connected by USB-C due to the absence of wireless radios.
  • Engineering challenges under extreme shock, heat and vibration drove two new iPhone 15 Pro features: log encoding capability and support for the Academy Color Encoding System workflow.
  • Footage shot with the module will debut in the Apple Original film F1, premiering internationally on June 25, 2025, and in U.S. theaters on June 27, 2025.
