Overview

  • The new studio-quality audio recording feature leverages the H2 chip, beamforming microphones and computational audio to capture clearer vocals with enhanced Voice Isolation across Voice Memos, Messages dictation and third-party apps.
  • A camera remote function lets users press and hold the AirPods stem to take photos or start and stop video recordings in the native Camera app as well as compatible third-party camera apps on iPhone and iPad.
  • Compatibility is assured for AirPods 4, AirPods 4 with Active Noise Cancellation and AirPods Pro 2, all set to receive the free firmware update alongside iOS 26, iPadOS 26 and macOS Tahoe this autumn.
  • Developers can test the new features today via the Apple Developer Program and a public beta will be available next month through the Apple Beta Software Program.
  • Additional enhancements include automatic playback pausing when users fall asleep, seamless switching between AirPods and CarPlay and a new manual firmware update interface in Settings.
