Overview
- Final Cut Camera version 2.4 rolled out on Tuesday, Sept. 29 with a ground-up redesign and direct control of the iPhone 18 Pro’s mechanical variable aperture.
- The app lets users set aperture manually or choose aperture-priority or shutter-priority modes to pick openings across the Fusion Main’s f/1.48–f/4 range while recording.
- Editors can apply Cinematic-mode effects to footage shot in ProRes and Apple Log so focus points and depth of field can be changed later in Final Cut Pro.
- With iOS 27 the update adds pro monitoring and output tools — including RGB Parade, histogram, clean SDI output, and genlock offset — that enable broadcast-style workflows from an iPhone.
- The app is a free App Store update but full access depends on device and iOS requirements and some outlets note parts of Apple’s creator ecosystem are tied to an Apple Creator Studio subscription, a factor that could split adoption between independent creators and professional productions.
