Apple Unveils Touchscreen MacBook Pro With PROLED XDR Display

Apple says the change reflects advances in display, silicon and software, creating a new premium tier for pro laptops.

Overview

  • Apple announced Wednesday that the MacBook Pro with PROLED XDR Display is available to preorder and will be released November 6, with starting prices of $2,899 for the 14-inch and $3,399 for the 16-inch models.
  • The new tandem OLED panel reaches up to 2,000 nits, offers a 10,000,000:1 contrast ratio and ProMotion up to 120Hz, and includes a touch sensor built into the display rather than as an added layer.
  • Apple kept M5 Pro and M5 Max processors in these models and offers configurations with up to 128GB of unified memory and up to 16TB of storage, plus modern I/O such as three Thunderbolt 5 ports, HDMI, SDXC and MagSafe.
  • The redesign makes the laptops thinner and lighter, restores the illuminated Apple logo, adds Dynamic Island and includes macOS touch gestures and developer APIs alongside a reinforced hinge to steady the screen for direct interaction.
  • Bloomberg reported a separate, unconfirmed plan for a lower-cost MacBook Neo 2 in H1 2027 with an A19 Pro and 12GB of RAM, and analysts say Apple’s adoption of OLED touch could raise OLED demand and reshape pricing, cooling and battery trade-offs in pro laptops.
