Overview

  • Apple unveiled the iPhone Duo on Wednesday, Sept. 9 and set preorders for October 16 with shipments to begin on October 23.
  • The Duo opens to a 7.6-inch inner display, includes a smaller outer cover screen, and runs iOS 27 features built to adapt to the hinge state.
  • Apple confirmed the phone will support only the Apple Pencil with USB-C and said Pencil functionality will arrive later this year.
  • To meet the foldable form factor Apple replaced Face ID with a side-mounted Touch ID, omitted a dedicated telephoto lens, and added vapor-chamber cooling, MagSafe, IP68 protection, and up to 60W wired charging.
  • Samsung responded with playful public jabs after the launch and analysts such as TrendForce project Apple could ship roughly 5 million Duo units in 2026 for about a 24.8% share of the small premium foldable market.
