Apple Unveils First Touchscreen MacBook Pro With PROLED XDR Display

The move brings touch to macOS through new developer APIs, positioning the machines as a premium M5-powered tier with higher prices.

Overview

  • Apple announced the new 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pro with a tandem OLED PROLED XDR touchscreen on Wednesday, October 28, and opened preorders the same day for delivery beginning November 6.
  • The PROLED XDR panel is a tandem OLED built with an integrated touch sensor, offers up to 2,000 nits peak brightness, a 10,000,000:1 contrast ratio, and adaptive ProMotion from 10Hz to 120Hz.
  • Apple ships the models with M5 Pro or M5 Max chips, supports up to 128GB of unified memory and 16TB of SSD storage, and keeps a broad port set including three Thunderbolt 5 ports, HDMI, an SDXC slot, MagSafe, Wi‑Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6.
  • Pricing starts at $2,899 for the 14-inch and $3,399 for the 16-inch M5 Pro versions, with higher-priced M5 Max configurations available, and Apple will sell the touchscreen models alongside existing non-touch MacBook Pros.
  • To support touch Apple redesigned the hinge for stability, added Dynamic Island and touch-focused macOS APIs, and plans app updates from makers like Adobe and Microsoft so creatives can draw, manipulate 3D objects, and play onscreen instruments directly on the display.
