  • Jack Lowden is confirmed to lead as detective Bernie Gunther in the adaptation of Philip Kerr’s Berlin Noir novels, marking his second major role for the streamer after Slow Horses.
  • BAFTA nominee Tom Shankland will direct and executive produce, while Oscar-winner Peter Straughan serves as showrunner, adapts the script and also executive produces.
  • Tom Hanks and Gary Goetzman are attached as executive producers through Playtone, with Jane Tranter, Dan McCulloch and Ryan Rasmussen producing for Bad Wolf.
  • The series will begin with Metropolis, Bernie Gunther’s 1928 origin story on the Berlin Murder Squad, set against a city teetering on social and political upheaval.
  • The project is in early pre-production with on-location filming slated for Berlin, but remains untitled with no confirmed production start date or release window.
