Apple to Replace Siri With Built-In Chatbot in iOS 27, Reports Say

Apple is preparing a two-stage Siri overhaul that shifts core AI to Google’s Gemini models.

Overview

  • Bloomberg reports Apple will roll out a chatbot version of Siri, code-named Campos, that replaces the current interface and works via voice or text across iPhone, iPad, and Mac.
  • The plan calls for a June WWDC unveiling and a September release with iOS 27 and macOS 27, following a spring iOS 26.4 upgrade that keeps today’s interface but adds Gemini-based capabilities.
  • Campos is slated to use a higher-end custom Google model known internally as Apple Foundation Models v11, with deep integration into core apps and the ability to control system features.
  • Apple and Google have discussed running the most powerful Campos processing on Google TPU servers rather than Apple’s Private Cloud Compute, and Apple is weighing tight limits on chatbot memory for privacy.
