Apple is preparing to rename all its operating systems using the upcoming year’s last two digits.

Overview

  • Apple will shift to a year-based naming scheme for iOS, iPadOS, macOS, watchOS, tvOS and visionOS, unveiling the first “26” versions at WWDC on June 9, 2025.
  • The Solarium redesign will bring rounded icons, frosted-translucent panels and consistent menus to every Apple platform.
  • New AI-powered tools will include live translation for AirPods, more capable Siri interactions and enhanced multitasking on iPadOS.
  • Apple plans to open its proprietary AI models to third-party developers and add features like eye-scrolling controls for Vision Pro and intelligent battery management.
  • Developer and public betas of the renamed OS updates and Solarium overhaul will roll out over the summer, with general release slated for September 2025.
