Overview
- macOS 26 Tahoe, unveiled at WWDC 2025, will be the final macOS version to run on Intel-based Macs.
- Only four Intel models—the 2019 16-inch and 2020 13-inch MacBook Pro, the 2020 27-inch iMac, and the 2019 Mac Pro—will qualify for the Tahoe update.
- Apple will provide security-only updates for those Intel machines until fall 2028, marking three years of post-feature support.
- Starting with macOS 27, all feature updates and Apple Intelligence capabilities will require Apple Silicon processors, fully excluding Intel hardware.
- Rosetta 2 translation will persist through macOS 27 but become restricted to legacy games thereafter, prompting developers to ship native Apple Silicon applications.
