Overview

  • Apple filed the lawsuit on Aug. 25 in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California seeking an injunction and monetary damages.
  • The complaint alleges former Apple Watch sensor architect Chen (also reported as Cheng) Shi downloaded 63 protected Box documents and transferred them to a USB drive three days before departing.
  • Apple cites messages in which Shi told Oppo health executive Zijing Zeng he was “collecting all possible information,” along with a surge to 33 one-on-one meetings on sensor R&D before he left.
  • The filing points to Google searches about deleting data or detecting access to shared files and claims Oppo knew of or encouraged the conduct.
  • Oppo says it has found no evidence tying the accusations to the employee’s work during his time at the company and says it will cooperate as the case enters pretrial discovery.
