Overview
- Apple filed the case on Aug. 22 in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California, naming Chen Shi, Guangdong Oppo and InnoPeak (5:25-cv-7105).
- The complaint alleges Shi downloaded 63 files from a protected Box folder and copied them to a USB drive shortly before leaving Apple in June.
- Apple says Shi messaged an Oppo health executive that he was reviewing internal materials and collecting information to share later, to which the executive replied with an acknowledgment and an OK emoji.
- According to Apple, Shi scheduled dozens of one-on-one meetings to learn about ongoing research while concealing plans to join a competitor and told colleagues he was returning to China to care for parents.
- Oppo says it has found no evidence linking the allegations to the employee’s conduct at the company, denies misappropriation and pledges to cooperate, while Apple says Shi now leads a sensing team at Oppo/InnoPeak’s Silicon Valley center.
