Apple Stops Signing iOS 18.6.2, Ending Downgrades From iOS 26

Apple uses server-side signing to block installs of older firmware, steering devices to supported, security-patched releases.

Overview

  • Apple stopped validating iOS 18.6.2 on September 22, closing the downgrade path for devices already upgraded to iOS 26.
  • iPadOS 18.6.2 and tvOS 18.6 were also unsigned, removing restore options to those builds for iPad and Apple TV users.
  • Users who have not upgraded can remain on iOS 18, but there is no official way to revert once a device is on iOS 26.
  • The change follows Apple’s usual cadence of ending signing about a week after a major release, matching the timing of iOS 26.
  • iOS 18.7 remains signed according to Aaron Perris, though no IPSW files are available for devices eligible to update to iOS 26.
