Apple Sets Sept. 15 Release for iOS 26 With Liquid Glass Redesign and Apple Intelligence

Most Apple Intelligence capabilities require recent Pro or M1‑class devices.

Overview

  • Apple will release iOS 26 on Monday, September 15, around 10 a.m. PT, and eligible iPhones will see the update under Settings > General > Software Update alongside an iOS 18.7 security-only option.
  • iOS 26 supports iPhone 11 and newer models, ending upgrade eligibility for the iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max and iPhone XR.
  • The update introduces a system-wide Liquid Glass look, with a redesigned Lock Screen that adds spatial wallpapers, smarter clock placement and more flexible widget areas.
  • Apple Intelligence debuts with features such as call and message screening, Hold Assist and live translation, limited to iPhone 16 models, iPhone 15 Pro/Pro Max and M1‑class iPad and Mac devices.
  • CarPlay adopts the Liquid Glass UI, widens widget access, adds live activities and enables AirPlay video streaming when parked in supported vehicles, as iPadOS 26, watchOS 26, macOS Tahoe, tvOS 26 and visionOS 26 roll out the same day.
