Apple Sets Late-2025 Launch for U.S. Passports in iPhone Wallet

Apple now lists a late-2025 window on its iOS 26 features page, with the capability still absent from the first iOS 26.1 beta.

Overview

  • Apple updated its iOS 26 features page to state that “Digital ID will be coming later this year with US passports only.”
  • Passport support is not in iOS 26.1 beta 1, and reporting suggests it could appear in later 26.1 or 26.2 builds or be enabled via a server-side rollout before year-end.
  • When available, a digital U.S. passport in Wallet will work at TSA checkpoints for domestic travel and for identity or age verification in apps, retail locations, and websites.
  • Adding passports will extend digital ID availability beyond the 11 states and territories that currently support Wallet-based driver’s licenses or state IDs.
  • Apple has not provided a specific release date or indicated whether passport support will expand to other countries.
