Apple Sets Feb. 10 Deadline to Retire Old Home Architecture, Urges Users to Upgrade

Upgrading keeps accessories responsive by meeting current OS requirements with an Apple TV or HomePod as the home hub.

Overview

  • Apple is sending in‑app notices and emails as a second reminder that support for the previous Home version ends on Feb. 10, 2026.
  • Without the update, access to a Home may be blocked, devices may stop responding, automations may fail, and the legacy build will receive no security or performance updates.
  • The migration requires at least iOS/iPadOS 16.2, macOS 13.1, tvOS 16.2, or watchOS 9.2 on participating devices.
  • An Apple TV or HomePod must serve as the home hub, with iPad no longer supported in that role under the new system.
  • Apple reissued the architecture in early 2023 after a troubled 2022 debut, kept it optional until now, extended a planned 2025 cutoff, and has not provided a timeline for a subsequent major Home release.
