Apple Says Over 100,000 Apps Are Now Optimized for the iPhone Duo

Rapid developer updates are closing an early app shortage that reduced the Duo’s usefulness for buyers.

Overview

  • Apple said Friday, November 6, that there are well over 100,000 Duo-optimized apps on the App Store and that thousands of optimized apps are being added each day.
  • The company credits new developer tools, the iOS 27.1 SDK, and more than 50 in-person workshops in 19 cities for the pace of updates and for helping apps fill the Duo’s twin-screen layouts.
  • Major publishers including Microsoft, Google and Zoom have already pushed Duo-ready updates and Apple now highlights optimized apps with editorial collections and a 'Made for iPhone Duo' badge to speed discovery.
  • The app surge addresses early criticism that few apps supported the Duo form factor, but hardware limits remain: tight initial supply, constrained spare parts and a small number of hinge-area inner-display cracks are still affecting replacements and repairs.
  • If Apple sustains developer momentum while resolving production and durability issues, the larger app catalog could speed consumer adoption and help the Duo compete in the growing foldable market.
