Overview
- Apple began seeding Live Rewind and Siri Recap in the iOS 27.3/watchOS 27.3 developer beta on Tuesday for Series 12 and Ultra 4 owners paired with supported iPhones.
- Live Rewind shows a text snippet of the last 15 seconds when users double-press the Digital Crown, plays an audible chime and animation to alert nearby people, and discards unsaved snippets after about 30 seconds.
- Siri Recap ambiently creates high-level titles and key-point summaries of conversations, can be scheduled or turned off, and automatically deletes unsaved recaps after seven days.
- Apple says raw audio is handled inside the S11 chip’s Secure Enclave, converted to condensed text on a paired iPhone, and—when cloud processing is used—sent encrypted to Private Cloud Compute with stated deletion and end-to-end encryption for saved items; the beta is English-only, requires iPhone 16 or later, and is restricted by age and region.
- The beta has generated hands-on reports and renewed privacy and legal concerns about bystander recording and state or regional laws, and Apple plans a wider public beta and a possible December release while it continues talks with regulators including in Europe.
