Apple Retires Clips, Pulls Video App From App Store

Apple urges existing users to export projects to Photos or other editors to preserve their videos.

Overview

  • As of October 10, 2025, Clips is no longer available for new downloads and will receive no further updates.
  • People who previously installed Clips can keep using it on iOS 26 or iPadOS 26 and can re‑download it from their App Store account.
  • Apple’s support guidance explains how to save videos with or without effects to Photos or Files and recommends moving projects to iMovie or third‑party editors such as InShot, VN, and GoPro Quik.
  • There is no guarantee the app will remain compatible with future iOS releases beyond iOS 26.
  • Launched in 2017 with features like Live Titles, Memoji/Animoji, and LiDAR effects, Clips saw updates taper to bug fixes by 2024 as platform‑native and third‑party tools eclipsed its use.
