Overview
- Apple’s feature page says Live Translation with AirPods is unavailable if you are in the EU and your Apple Account region is also set to an EU country.
- The restriction creates odd cases: visitors from non‑EU regions can use it in the EU, but EU residents with EU accounts cannot use it while in the bloc.
- Live Translation debuts with iOS 26 and new AirPods firmware expected on September 15, works on AirPods Pro 3 as well as AirPods Pro 2 and AirPods 4 with ANC, and requires an Apple Intelligence‑enabled iPhone 15 Pro or newer.
- At launch the feature supports English, French, German, Portuguese (Brazil), and Spanish, with Italian, Japanese, Korean, and Chinese (simplified) planned for later in 2025.
- Apple notes activation outside the EU should continue to work when traveling, while switching an Apple ID region could bypass the block but may disrupt billing and app access.
