Apple Reportedly Developing Two iPhone Game Controllers to Sell Under Beats

If the reports are accurate, Beats-branded controllers would let Apple offer lower-cost, lifestyle-focused gamepads that tie into its iPhone, iPad, Mac and Apple Arcade ecosystem.

Overview

  • Multiple outlets reported this week that references in macOS 26.7 earlier in September revealed two unreleased controller models, and those code entries were removed in a later release candidate.
  • Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman corroborated the code findings and said Beats executives are leading the effort, but Apple has not confirmed any product, price or launch timing.
  • The two model identifiers found in the code—T6502 and T1057—appear to target different uses: T6502 looks like a simpler wired unit while T1057 adds Bluetooth, motion sensors and richer haptic effects.
  • Reporting says Apple would likely sell the controllers under the Beats brand to allow lower-cost materials and a more lifestyle-oriented design that can better compete with third-party gamepads sold in the Apple Store.
  • Because the references were removed from the later macOS candidate and Apple has made no announcement, the project may still be internal testing or abandoned and would only affect consumers if Apple formally launches and integrates the devices with its gaming services.
