Overview
- Bloomberg reported Sunday that Apple has worked on iPhone game controllers for more than a year and that Beats executives are leading product engineering and design.
- Researchers examining a macOS 26.7 release-candidate earlier this month found code references to two codenamed models, T6502 and T1057, that point to first-party controller profiles.
- The macOS code indicates standard gamepad inputs such as a D-pad, dual thumbsticks, shoulder buttons and analog triggers plus haptic motors and possible motion sensors like an accelerometer and gyroscope.
- One build appears to show T1057 supporting Bluetooth, wired connections, motion sensing and richer haptics while T6502 looks simpler and possibly wired, and those references were removed in a later macOS 26.7 RC.
- Apple has not confirmed the products, launch timing or pricing, and if released under Beats the controllers could link with Games and Apple Arcade while putting pressure on third-party accessory makers who now sell through the Apple Store.
