Apple Releases Sequoia 15.7.2 and Sonoma 14.8.2 Security Updates as Tahoe 26.1 Rolls Out

Users are being urged to verify the Software Update selection to avoid an unintended upgrade to macOS Tahoe.

Overview

  • macOS Sequoia 15.7.2 and macOS Sonoma 14.8.2 deliver important security fixes and do not add new features or bug fixes.
  • The updates are available to Macs not running macOS Tahoe, with Safari 26.1 offered alongside them.
  • Several reports say the info button in the “Also Available” panel can preselect macOS Tahoe 26.1, which has led to accidental upgrades.
  • Advisers recommend opening the ⓘ panel to explicitly choose Sequoia or Sonoma and Safari, deselecting Tahoe, and backing up with Time Machine before updating.
  • Apple simultaneously shipped macOS Tahoe 26.1 and 26.1 updates across iOS, iPadOS, watchOS, tvOS, and visionOS, and full macOS installers are available from Apple’s CDN.
