Apple Releases macOS 26.2 Public Beta With ‘Edge Light’ Virtual Ring Light

Early testing shows the ML-driven effect works best in dark rooms, with a broader rollout expected in December.

Overview

  • Edge Light is now included in macOS Tahoe 26.2 beta 2 for both developers and public beta testers.
  • The feature works on all Apple silicon Macs, with automatic activation in low light on 2024-and-newer models.
  • Apple’s Neural Engine detects face position while the Image Signal Processor adapts brightness, and users can adjust intensity and color temperature.
  • The effect supports major video apps, including FaceTime, Zoom, WebEx, Microsoft Teams, and Google Meet, and also works with external cameras and Studio Display.
  • Reviewers report clear gains in very low light, note that it recedes near the cursor and does not appear in screenshots, and caution it will not fully replace dedicated lighting.
