Overview
- Apple started the staged worldwide release of iOS 27 on Monday, September 14, 2026, with the new software available through Settings or via a Mac or PC download.
- iOS 27 is compatible with iPhone 11 and later plus iPhone SE (2nd gen) and newer, while several older models such as the iPhone X, XS, XR, 8 and earlier are excluded from the update.
- Siri AI arrives as a beta in English with a dedicated Siri app, conversational voice and text interactions, visual Siri camera mode, and the ability to act inside apps; some advanced Apple Intelligence features require iPhone 15 Pro‑class hardware to run fully.
- The release also adds AI photo tools (Extend, Reframe, a stronger Eraser, and Image Playground), Safari tab and change alerts, tighter parental controls, and Apple’s claimed speed gains for apps, Photos and AirDrop.
- Users are advised to back up data, free storage or update via a computer, expect phased language and feature rollouts through October, and note Apple says parts of the system were developed with external foundational models while keeping on‑device privacy protections.
