Apple Releases iOS 26.2 APIs to Meet Texas Parental‑Consent Law

Developers can now test age‑band signals with consent workflows before the law begins in January 2026.

Overview

  • The new Declared Age Range API supplies age categories (under 13, 13–15, 16–17, or over 18) plus a signal indicating the method of age assurance, such as a credit card or government ID.
  • A Significant Change flow in PermissionKit enables re‑consent from a parent or guardian when an app materially changes, with developers responsible for defining what qualifies as significant.
  • Parents in Texas will be able to withdraw consent for any app, which blocks the app from launching on a child or teen’s device, with App Store server notifications alerting developers to the change.
  • Sandbox testing for these features is available in the iOS and iPadOS 26.2 betas, and Apple is urging developers to submit compliant builds when the release candidates arrive.
  • Texas’s SB 2420 takes effect on January 1, 2026, requiring new age checks at Apple account creation and parental approval for minors, and Apple says similar compliance tools are coming for Utah, Louisiana, and Brazil.
