Overview

  • Apple has released the iOS 17.1.1 update to fix an issue that caused the Near Field Communication (NFC) chips in iPhone 15 models to malfunction after using the wireless charging systems in certain BMW and Toyota cars.
  • The issue was serious enough that iPhones had to be brought to an Apple store or authorized service provider for repair. However, the new update prevents this problem from recurring.
  • The problem affected iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro, and iPhone 15 Pro Max models, disabling NFC features like Apple Pay and the BMW digital car key.
  • Unfortunately, the update does not remedy iPhone 15 models already affected by the bug. It simply prevents the problem from happening again.
  • In addition to the NFC malfunction fix, the iOS 17.1.1 update also addresses other bugs and software enhancements, including a problem with the lock screen weather widget displaying the wrong icon for snowfall.
