Apple Publishes iOS 18.6 and Cross-Platform Updates with Full Security Disclosures

A newly published support document details more than 100 fixes across Apple’s platforms as the company retires older releases ahead of its Liquid-Glass interface launch.

Overview

  • Apple released iOS 18.6, iPadOS 18.6, macOS 15.6 Sequoia, watchOS 11.6, tvOS 18.6 and visionOS 2.6 alongside maintenance updates for iPadOS 17.7.9, macOS Sonoma 14.7.7 and Ventura 13.7.7.
  • The support document lists 24 detailed plus 13 unspecified fixes for iOS and iPadOS and over 80 patches with 16 acknowledgments for macOS, with corresponding updates for watchOS, tvOS and visionOS.
  • WebKit accounted for the largest share of vulnerabilities—eight detailed bugs and one unnamed—with additional fixes targeting CoreMedia, CoreAudio, Metal, kernel components and sandboxing flaws.
  • In compliance with EU rules, sideloading has been streamlined to under four steps with a one-time Face ID approval and App Store apps can now link directly to web-hosted installations under Apple review.
  • Germany’s BSI has warned that builds prior to iOS 18.6 and iPadOS 17.7.9 expose devices to critical threats as Apple retires iOS 17 ahead of its fall OS 26 Liquid-Glass redesign.
