Sales for Apple's AirPods 3 have been weak, leading to a planned redesign of the second and third-generation AirPods and the introduction of two new fourth-generation offerings.
The AirPods 3, despite offering some benefits over previous models, have been deemed not worth the extra cost, with consumers tending to choose between the more affordable second-gen model or the high-end AirPods Pro.
Two versions of the fourth-generation AirPods are expected, with both featuring a new design and USB-C charging; the higher-end model will include noise cancellation and a charging case with speakers for 'Find My' alerts.
Next year will also see a slight refresh of the AirPods Max, featuring a USB-C port and new colors; however, only a few other changes are expected. The AirPods Pro are set to get a new design and chip in 2025.
