Overview

  • Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo estimates that Apple is developing at least seven head-worn XR devices across two product families, encompassing three Vision headsets and four smart glasses.
  • He says a refreshed Vision Pro carrying an M5 processor is expected to enter mass production in Q3 2025 with first-year shipments projected at 150,000–200,000 units.
  • A Vision Air model aiming to weigh roughly 40 percent less than its predecessor and using plastic and magnesium alloy is slated for mass production in Q3 2027.
  • Apple’s first audio-only smart glasses, positioned as a competitor to Ray-Ban Meta, are projected to begin production in Q2 2027 with shipments of 3–5 million units.
  • Work on a cable-tethered display accessory originally planned for Q2 2026 has been paused, while two display-equipped XR glasses using liquid crystal on silicon and waveguide optics are targeted for 2028.
